Climate Action Plan

In March 2023, the Marquette County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution titled "Supporting Measures to Respond to a Changing Climate," underscoring the County's commitment to mitigating and adapting to a changing climate. The resolution lays the framework for the development of a comprehensive Climate Action Plan. This plan will consist of two parts:

  1. A strategic roadmap to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 at County operated facilities to be in alignment with MI Healthy Climate Plan, and

  2. Update regional climate trends and data. The County Planning Commission has been actively guiding these efforts through the Climate Action Subcommittee.

To advance these goals, the County Board has selected Johnson Controls Inc. to conduct an ASHRAE Level 2 Energy Audit, a greenhouse gas emissions inventory, and a fleet review/EV analysis for County facilities. This audit will serve as the foundation for our initial deliverable.Additionally, for our second deliverable, Marquette County Planning Division hosted four "dialogue dinners" across the County. These events facilitated broader community input through informal discussions over buffet-style meals, complemented by a community survey for additional feedback from residents!
